FAMILY
This Tavistock family is an offshoot of the Totnes tree. We know this from Aunt Amery's memoirs:
"Samuel WINDEATT, my grandfather’s father, was the eldest of three brothers, the second went to Tavistock and settled and his descendants are still there".
The family appear to have been similar to the Totnes branches: in trade and fairly comfortably off, staunch non-conformists, subscribers to local literature books and magazines.
Unfortunately, I have been unable to tease out a tree - even speculative - for this Mary and Elizabeth (so many of them were called Mary, Elizabeth and Thomas!). There are too many loose ends and the dates don't fit. If you have worked out their relationships, please leave a message on the message board.
Other wills for this branch are:
- 1766 Elizabeth WINDEATT wife of Thomas WINDEATT, Fellmonger
- 1832/3 - William WINDEATT of the borough of Tavistock, Woolstapler
- 1850 - Thomas WINDEATT, Tavistock, Devon, Woolstapler
Distressing Occurrence
It looks as though Mary WINDEATT was the lady at whose funeral a tragic event occurred.
