Nora Windeatt, fl. 1927
According to Srigley (2005) Nora WINDEATT, a single woman, emigrated to Toronto in 1927 and worked her way up to a managerial position in a hosiery factory, see
- "In
case you hadn't noticed!": Race, Ethnicity, and Women's Wage-Earning in
a Depression-Era City
(search for 'Nora' on the page and also read footnote 125).
Who was she?
We haven't a clue who this nor about the two other Noras mentioned below. They could be one and the same person or two or three different ones.
Candidate 1
There was a Nora WINDEATT in the States with the following Social Security details:
Birth Date: 4 Dec 1912
Death Date: 18 Apr 2005
Social Security Number: 156-30-9434
State or Territory Where Number Was Issued: New Jersey
Death Residence Localities
ZIP Code: 19602
Localities: Reading, Berks, Pennsylvania
West Reading, Berks, Pennsylvania
But could this be the same one? Did she move from Canada to New Jersey?
Candidate 2
There was also a Nora WINDIATE who was born in the September quarter of 1889 in Cheltenham. But this is probably not the same person since Nora WINDEATT was interviewed by Srigley in 1998. Srigley's account doesn't state how old she was at the time of the interview but almost 100 seems unlikely.
