WINDGEAT UK mariages 1837-(under construction)

Introduction

1. The efforts of two different researchers in transcribing the WINDEATT marriages from the Family Records Centre index.
2. Transcriptions of Marriage Certificates purchased by family members researching their own trees.
3. Suppositions based on other sources, e.g. Census data, monumental inscriptions and death certificates.

It does not pretend to be complete because

• IT IS CURRENTLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION
• there are more WINDEATT records than other variants.  This has arisen as a result of the compilers' original interests.  But we would like to collect more WINGETTs and WINGATEs.  Also I have not entered all the available data.  More will be added eventually.
• The Index itself is far from complete see the Review from the  Jun 2001 issue of  Family Tree magazine.

There are probably quite a few mistakes of my own.  Please let me know if you find any!  And if you can fill in any of the gaps, I would be very grateful.

1. 1803, On Sunday last was married, at St. John's Church, Mr. KINGWELL, of Plymouth, confectioner, to Miss WINGYETT, daughter of Mr. WINGYETT, of this city, confectioner. - EFP, December 15th 1812
2. 1815, Tuesday se'nnight was married at Plymouth, Mr. James WINGYETT, confectioner, to Miss Ann BOWLES, both of that place. - EFP - Thursday, June 15th
3. 1822, On Wednesday last, at Moretonhampstead, Mr. John PILLAR, to Miss Elizabeth WINDEAT, both of that place.
4. 1825, On Friday last, at Berry Pomeroy Church, by the Rev. John EDWARDS, John COLLIER, Jun. Esq. of Plymouth to Miss Harriet WINDEATT third daughter of John WINDEATT, Esq., of Bridgetown, Totnes.
5. 1831, At St. George the Martyr's, The Rev. J. C. WALLACE to Sophia Wilton, only daughter of the late Samuel M. WINDEATT, Esq. of Totnes, Devon.
6. 1833, Sept 25, at St. Lawrence's Church, Mr. James WINDEAT to Mary, eldest daughter of Mr. C. UPHAM, late of this city, hatter
7. 1835, On Monday last, at Dartmouth, Mr WINDEAT of Buckfastleigh, to Mary Jane, grand daughter of John GREAVES, Esq. of King's Quay, Dartmouth.
8. 1837,By the Rev. E.C. Harrington, Joseph Clampitt, second and youngest son of Mr. John LOVEYS, of Kinnick in Christow, to Mary Ann, second daughter of the late Mr John WINDEATT, of Luckdon in the parish of North Bovey.
9. 1838, June 21, at Ashburton, William Fabyan WINDEATT, Esq., of Totnes, to Mary, second daughter of Samuel KNOWLES, Esq., of Leet Park.
10. 1851, Ann WINDEATT.  An Ann SMITH was prosecuted two years later for ill-treating her 19-year old daughter Mary Grace WINDEATT in Teignmouth.
11. 1855, Elizabeth Grace - this was a second marriage (or she already had an illegitimate daughter) as far as we can tell from the 1861 census.
12. 1861, April 9 at Islington, London, Stephen, eldest son of Mr. B. SILLENCE, of Compton, Hampshire, to Mary Sawdye, eldest daughter of Mr. John WINDEAT of North Bovey.

13. 1866, Elizabeth - possibly Elizabeth Jane WINDGEATT of the Ughborough tree who was christened in 1835.
14. 1868, May 28, at Bartholomew Chapel, Exeter, by the Rev. J. PRICE (uncle of the bridegroom), Mr. T. P. TURNERE of Merriot, Somerset, to Elizabeth Upham, daughter of the late Mr. James WINDEAT, Exeter.
15. 1874, May 28, at Moretonhampstead church, Mr. Cyprian WINDEATT, of East Coombe, North Bovey, to Sarah, only daughter of the late Mr. Thomas BISHOP, of Moreton.
16. 1889, Elizabeth WINDEATT (née SOUTHERTOON) was the widow of William Robert WINDEATT and this is her second marriage.  This time to William Greenslade MEDLON.
17. 1896, Probably the Edwin WINDEATT, born 7 December 1863 in Galmpton, Churston Ferrers - see Records of the Admiralty, Naval Forces, Royal Marines, Coastguard, and related bodies Series Admiralty: Royal Navy Registers of Seamen's Services Piece 126001 - 126500
18. 1899, WEDDING AT NEWTON: On Tuesday afternoon, the wedding was solemnised of Mr. Arthur M. WINDEATT, late editor of the 'Mid Devon and Newton Times," and Miss Violet CULL, eldest daughter of Mr. James R, CULL, timber merchant of Newton Abbot.  The ceremony took place at the Wolborough Church, the Rev. W.E. DURHAM officiating.  The service was fully choral.  Previous to the ceremony the organist, Mr, G. H. HEARDER, played "In native worth" from Haydon's 'Creation'.  The bride, who was given away by her father, was attire in a white muslin dress over white silk, with white picture hat, trimmed with feathers and chiffon strings and some orange blossom.  she carried ashower bouquet composed of lilies, orchids and orange blossoms  She wore a gold chain and pendant and gold brooch set with pearls,  The only bridesmaid was her sister (Miss Hilda CULL) who was dressed in blue silk grenadine over white, with a white Tuscan hat, trimmed with pink roses and black velvet.  As the bridal party left the church, Mendelssohn's 'Wedding March" wa played.  Mr. Frank WINDEATT, Totnes was best man.  The honeymoon is being spent at Aberyswith. 19. 1903, Hariett Ellen WINDEATT (née MANVELL) was the widow of William Robert WINDEATT (the second) and this is her second marriage.
