On this page: [Introduction] [Where's Kingsbridge?] [Other Names]
I kept coming across these Dodbrooke and Kingsbridge folks so I thought I would try and make some sense of it all. The families mostly spell their surname WINGATE or WINGETT.
Two families?
By the time of the first useful census in 1841, there appear to be two family branches in the area:
It is just possible that these two families are related because William WINGET, aged 51, in Dodbrooke is a Mason, the same profession as John WINGATE, aged 48 in Kingsbridge. They could be cousins. However, until we find out more definitely, I have put them on separate pages. Select the links above for more information.
Kingsbridge - where is it?
It's in Devon, England. Link to the England Map
More specifically it's in South Devon at the head of the Salcombe-Kingsbridge Estuary.
